How to Pay for X Ads (Twitter): What Media Buyers Need to Know in 2026

The question of how to pay for X Ads usually comes up at the worst moment: the campaign is approved, the audience is set, and the payment step will not let you finish. X, formerly Twitter, has a simpler billing setup than Meta or Google, but it is just as strict about the card. If a charge fails, ads stop.

In this guide you will find which payment options X offers, how it charges a card, what to look for in a card, the setup in five steps, how teams with several accounts organise payments and what the whole thing costs on our rates.

Payment Options on X Ads

For most advertisers, a bank card is the only practical way to pay. You add it to the ad account, and X charges it for the spend. Large brands that work with X directly can sometimes arrange invoicing, but that route requires an agreement with the platform and is rarely open to media buying teams or affiliates.

That makes the card the critical part of the setup. It has to be accepted when you add it, pass every charge after that and be easy to replace if something goes wrong with an account.

How X Charges Your Card

X bills after the fact: the platform charges the linked card as spend accumulates, at billing thresholds or at regular intervals. When you add a card, a small temporary authorization may appear to confirm the card is valid; it is not a real charge.

If a charge is declined, X pauses delivery until the payment goes through or you add a working card. The account currency is chosen when the account is created, so check it in advance: our cards are EUR cards, and spend in another currency will be converted.

How to Pay for X Ads Without Declines: Choosing the Card

X has a smaller ad volume than Meta or Google, and its risk checks see fewer advertisers. A card from an issuer with a weak reputation stands out more there. Four things matter most:

  • The BIN. Spending Market cards are issued on a unique European BIN that is not shared with mass-market products.
  • A pass rate you can check. On X (Twitter) Ads ours is 97–99%.
  • Fast issuance. A card is ready in about 60 seconds, so a new account does not wait.
  • Funding options. USDT, USDC, ETH or a SEPA bank transfer, with a $500 minimum deposit; the crypto route is explained in How to Top Up Virtual Cards With Crypto: USDT, USDC and ETH Step by Step.

If charges still fail, the cause is usually the balance, the card data or the issuer’s own checks. We break these down in Card Declines in Advertising: Real Reasons Explained.

Step by Step: Paying for X Ads With a Virtual Card

  1. Register in the Spending Market dashboard and top up the balance.
  2. Issue a card for the X ad account; it takes about a minute.
  3. In the X Ads account, open the billing section and add a new card.
  4. Enter the card number, expiry date and CVV from the dashboard.
  5. Launch the campaign and keep the balance above the spend expected before the next top-up.

The dashboard is protected with 2FA, every transaction is monitored, and the transaction history shows each charge from X.

Paying for Several X Accounts

Teams that run X traffic rarely stop at one account. The safe pattern is one card for each account. If X restricts one account, its card can be closed in one click, and the other accounts keep paying from their own cards. A shared card, on the other hand, links all accounts on the payment side.

A client can hold up to 100 cards per IBAN and up to 5 IBANs at the start. How to organise cards by account, campaign or buyer is covered in One Card per Campaign: How to Structure Payments for Ad Accounts, and how to keep several platforms on one payment system is covered in How to Manage Multiple Ad Accounts Across Platforms with One Payment System.

What Paying for X Ads Costs: An Example

Our rates: issuance €1.5 on Base and Mid and €1.0 on VIP; €1.5 or €1.0 a month per active card; top-up commission 3.5% on Base, 2.5% on Mid and 1.7% on VIP. Transactions and withdrawals are 0%.

X budgets are often smaller than on other platforms. Take a team with 8 X accounts and €6,000 in top-ups a month, on Base:

  • issuance: 8 × €1.5 = €12, once;
  • monthly fee: 8 × €1.5 = €12;
  • commission: 3.5% of €6,000 = €210;
  • total: €234 in the first month and €222 after that.

On Mid the same team pays €12 for issuance, €12 a month for cards and €150 in commission: €174 in the first month and €162 afterwards, €60 a month less. If X is one channel among several and your total volume is large, compare these numbers with VIP terms.

Summary

To pay for X Ads, you add a card to the ad account and X charges it as spend grows. The card should sit on a clean BIN, pass charges at a measured rate, be issued in minutes and be separate for every account. Keep the balance ahead of spend and choose the plan by your monthly volume. Details are on our virtual card for X (Twitter) Ads page.
